Honoring the Fallen—Coeur d'Alene Firefighter Tragedy

Our hearts are heavy as we join the fire service family nationwide in mourning the tragic loss of two brave firefighters in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. On June 29, 2025, Battalion Chief Frank Harwood of Kootenai County Fire & Rescue and Battalion Chief John Morrison of the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department were senselessly killed in an ambush while responding to a wildfire. Engineer David Tysdal of Coeur d'Alene Fire was also critically injured.

This horrific act is a sobering reminder of the risks we face—whether in fire, medical, or unforeseen violence. These fallen brothers were doing what we all vow to do: serve their community with courage, commitment, and honor.

On behalf of East Manatee Fire Rescue, IAFF Local 4074, we extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and brothers and sisters of the fallen. We stand with you in grief, and we stand with you in solidarity. May their sacrifice never be forgotten.

Rest easy, brothers. We’ll take it from here.
